2006 -- January's journalOh, a really happy new year to you all! Am very pleased last year is over and done with and there'll be mucho relaxing this year. I'm not doing things like moving house or splitting up with father of child this year, as it's too much even for me! I am doing this, though! Another giveaway to you. This time I've got 10 copies of signed Shazzie's detox delights to give away!! Check out how to get your lovely mitts on one below... Free Shazzie's detox delights!
New year's revolutionsNow, remember that word above isn't a typo! Revolutions change the world, resolutions seem to dissolve quicker than Alkaseltzer! Keep yours safe. Write them down and stick them on your bathroom mirror. Love yourself into making massive positive changes! My last Christmas pressieI ordered some Messages From Water stuff from an American bleep site a week ago, and got it today! Check the site out, there are all special stickers that you can get to put on things all over your house and even on your purse! I got a poster of the crystal that had been prayed over by the Zen monk guy and a fab book for Evie called Becoming Me. Lovely story. For ages 4 and up, but she's advanced! ;-) Lisa's weddingAw! Loved my babe Lisa's wedding last night. The church was all candle-lit, no lights at all. The vicar wrote a fab speech that Lisa didn't know about and her and Michael looked so wonderful. Lisa wore a flowing black velvet cape with a mushroom satin dress underneath. Her hair was in a neat bob and she looked just like Snow White. Never been to a winter wedding before, so was all enthused by the enchantedness of it. It was bitterly cold, though. Evie said "that" (her fave word) throughout the ceremony. I was that cringing mother who felt like scuttling off, but Lisa loved it. She only chose 3 friends to be there as it was such an intimate do, so I felt especially honoured. I cried this morning for her as I was doing my hair, and I started to cry at the wedding itself but Evie's "That"'s kept distracting me! So Evie hung out with Lisa's little sister Stevie all night. She's probably not even 10, and she was being such a lovely mother to Evie. Very nice girl. As soon as we got in the car she was a zonkoidetta, so I decided not to go to Bov and Chrissie's new year party in Suffolk. Too far when you've been up since 4. Am going to stick this post up and go off to bed. Maybe next year Matt can have Evie for a night? Am not sure how that works with breastfeeding at 2.5 years. Do they still suck every few hours or would they sleep through? Bless my little Evie, she's such a poppetty appendage. We've had so much fun together over the last 2 weeks. Anyway. Wow, what a wonderful last two weeks. Over 200 emails to answer, an article to write, 2 adverts to design and a new employee to get started... and it's all fab, and I love it!
Your feedbackJanuary 6th -- Hey guys -- wow, what can I say about all the journal feedback? I'm stunned! Apart from one negative email (er, why are you reading this if you don't like it?), it's been astounding... So many are pouring in. I'll choose the winners at the beginning of Feb, so there's still time to keep mailing. Then I'll alter my journal according to what the majority want -- so your say is important, prize or no prize! I'm not shocked at the biggest request: More of what you eat! Oh, I guess it's still interesting for you guys, though it seems so samey to me these days. Well, I'll give it a go, every now and then, OK ;-) So today I've had about a pint of juice (carrot, apple, celery, as I'm out of kale and other dark greens), I made some hemp croquettes, see the next issue of Funky Raw for the recipe, and ate some of those in lettuce wraps with chunks of salady stuff and cashew mayo. I've had another big salad, and Evie's leftovers. I always have Evie's leftovers, as she really doesn't want the same stuff served to her at the next meal! Oh, and I've had about eight cups of tea (all different types such as pau d'arco, echinachea, peppermint etc), and loads of water. I do drink a massive amount because of breastfeeding. There, is that better? I promise I'll try harder with this. Our annual retreat 2006I need to just put this advert for our annual retreat up, as I know this retreat will sell out very fast, so I want my dedicated readers to get first dibs at it ;-) We did have the retreat booked for June but when Annette left, I had to consolidate my retreats (we were about to announce one in Greece with David Wolfe), I just can't organise them all myself. So, I checked in with the fab Croydon Hall, and they had a space in October. I'll have to book the weather a bit more, but apart from that, it's going to be the most extraordinary four days ever! Really hope you can come. Remember there's an early booking discount, so please get in there early if you really want to come, and you'll be rewarded for it too!
Easy days9th January -- Oh, I have to say, that the last week has felt so lovely and flowing. I think it's partly the release of all that old 2005 energy. Am looking forward to this whole month really, got some lovely things lined up on a personal front -- am going to get a big long massage on my birthday for a start. Well, that's not actually for a start as it's at the end of the month, but for a start in my filey fax! I just feel a lot more serene right now, and am totally enjoying Evie while she's on a teething break. Oh, now, I must talk about what I ate, mustn't I ;-) OK, for breakfast I made about 3 pints of juice. I had about a pint for breakfast, then drank the rest throughout the day. It had about 6 carrots, 2 cucumbers, 1 bag of chard, 1 head of celery, half a lemon and 2 apples. Very nice and tasty! For lunch I had some avocado, tomato and Crystal Manna. For tea I had a smorgasbord of stuff. I do this increasingly with Evie as she can then pick from a big tray what she really fancies. I ate an avocado, some cauliflower, 4 hempseed patties, 2 heads of little gem lettuce, a big tomato and an shallot. Evie hid the tomato under the sofa, and I'm going "I'm sure I had a tomato here somewhere". Little tinker. I also had a handful of brazil nuts in the car (I keep them in there for Evie to munch on, she has half at a time!). Now, I've got a nice cuppa echinachea tea just before I pop off to read. Speaking of reading, I finished Sharon Osbourne's book. Wow, what a life she's lead. She's an extremely strong woman, to deal with everything that she has. But I guess that's what life's about, dealing with stuff to become stronger. It was a really easy read, and I was going to sleep thinking "I wanna finish the book"! Eleven out of ten. So now I'm onto Masaru Emoto's The Secret Life Of Water, a little book that's so beautiful. I love his way of writing -- not sure if it's in the translation but there's something so sweet about that man. Love everything he does. It's odd thinking that I'l be 37 in a few days. I don't feel that old, whatever that old is! I look in the mirror and I don't see a young thing anymore, but I don't see someone in their late thirties (ooh!!! late thirties!!!). It's odd, it's like I've got shiny skin and very few wrinkles and just the one chin, all those things I didn't have at 29! You know, I was in a shop the other day, and I got talking to the shopkeeper about kids (this happens when you have a child on you!). She said "I used to love... oh, I don' t think you'd be old enough to remember... I used to love the clangers" I said I remembered the clangers (best kids programme ever), and told her my age. "Oh, we're the same age" she goes. So it's not just my imagination. And... forgot to mention this. I was in Staples with Evie the other day and a bloke (this time he was a customer, didn't work there!) asked me out! I did say no because I just thought he's not The One -- he was a good looking guy though. Not sure how I knew he wasn't the one, I just did. And it as odd as he just kept saying "You're beautiful, you're so beautiful" No, it wasn't James Blunt! I think he was just stunned by my new coat that I treated myself to. Oh, it was so funny, as I've totally lost my flirt gene (yeah, I really have), and I felt myself blushing and fiddling insecurely with Evie's jacket zip. I think I might need man classes... Maybe I should have gone out with him? No, no, he wasn't The One. Oh, and the other day, James, Anna and little Maya came over for the day. They're a rawish family, just starting Winter Sun Retreats out in Ibiza. I'm going to go for a break with Evie at some point. Decided I'm not able to wait til May for a holiday, it's been too long. Anyway, we had a fab day, and the girls did so much playing, it was like a whole days worth of chimps tea partying. You should have seen my house afterwards! Thankfully, I got Sue to come in and help me clear up the next day. Don't know what I'd do without her! It was lovely seeing Evie play with an awake child, hence my need for a community. Though saying that, I may have gone off the idea of creating one in a mansion, I think you need more money than I thought and I do like being in a house. A raw street's what's needed. Next time someone moves in my road, a raw family should move in, and so on! Oooh, back in the kinfe drawer!11th January -- Someone told me about a raw food board that's got people slagging me off for daring to mention the products I eat, endorse and sell. Where does that whole poverty consciousness come from? It's not good for me to sell the stuff I believe in? It's not OK for me to write about it in my own journal? OK... If I didn't like what someone wrote, I think I'd be inclined to not read it, rather than slag them off. Hey guys, the raw world is very very small. There are already severe fractures in it with many raw food promoters being the subject of others' issues, so why make it worse? You know what? Try sending people love when you feel you have an issue with them, you may just see it dissolve. You know, I really don't need to justify why I run a business, I'm ecstatic that I can run an ethical vegan business that puts out the raw message far and wide to the great unsuspecting public. I'm so grateful that my web site now gets over 8,000 visits a day, because that also spreads the raw message. I'm happy to do so much free stuff for raw fooders such as the pot lucks, various sponsorships and other great things that are in the pipeline. And, if I can do that because I have a successful business (which you don't have to buy from, as I'm really not sitting there twisting your arm), then that's totally wonderful. Oh yeah, there's the small issue of being very very happy that I can provide a lovely home for me and my daughter, afford the best raw organic food for us, and that I don't have any poverty conscious issues, coz they smell of poo (and envy, actually)! Now, excuse me while I pray at my cacao, goji and maca altar ;-) And to food... I'm so thirsty today, as I've been sucked dry again by Evie. I think she's got another tooth coming through (read sleepless nights), and so she lays straight across me from about 4am sucking from one booboo, then the next, til I get up at about 8am. I'll look like a prune soon! So, I had about a pint and a half of smoothie today -- raw cacao powder, maca, Gillian McKeith's living superfood, 2 bananas, 5 strawberries, raw carob powder. Whenever I put the blender on, Evie goes "Woooooooo" like a blender noise. And now she does it when I get the jug out of the cupboard. She's a Pavlov's dog. So I also had a small salad with yellow pepper, avocado, Udo's Oil, Crystal Manna, cucumber and red onion. I just had a slice of "cheese and tomato on toast" -- a concoction made from sprouted rye grains with carrot pulp, tomatoes and nut cheese (dehydrated). I had three of these yesterday, they're lovely when warm straight from the dehydrator. Now, I may just have a lovely cuppa. Before I go and force some unsuspecting person to buy something they don't want from me... News news and more news
It makes little difference to me, actually, because I work a hundred miles away in my lovely home office, but for my staff, it's a big blessing. They were all huddled in a corner pecking at each other. Now they can flap their wings and turn around. Oh, I guess I'll get some space back!
So with these two really exciting things going on, my faith in the Universe consipring to help those who ask has been restored. After such a turbulent 2005 (which has left me emotionally spent and fragile, and I know I'm recovering), this is the best start to 2006 that I could ask for. My resolve to be nice to Matt is working most of the time -- actually, we're both working hard at being nice to each other. It ebbs and flows a bit, but is much better than it was. There now follows a public service announcement by Tony Wright.

January 23rd -- my 37th birthday. Am totally going backwards now, so I'll be 35. Will also take the day off and languish in the jacuzzi. See how I've written this way before it's happening as I'm manifesting an even more perfect day than normal! Yeah! I'm 25 today! Well, me and Lisa Currants went out boogieing at the weekend, and everyone's like "You look about 25" Not just blokes, but women, too. Had a great weekend. You see, when your birthday's on a Monday, you have to stretch it out. So, starting Friday, Matt babysat Evie and me and Lisa Currants went out. We ended up at the Fez club where I danced away with a gay guy (my man luck is extraordinary, isn't it!). When I got to bed, I heard this "you alright?", and thinking that Evie had got the power of speaking like I man or that my luck had changed, I smiled. Then Matt got out of my bed to go to his. He said that Evie had kept waking up so he ended up sleeping with her. The poppet's never slept alone at night! Cor, and my booboos were so full! She drank for about an hour and I'm sure she was asleep while doing it. Well, that's shown me that I'm not going to get a weekend away in Ragdale Hall any time soon. Did ask Jennie that when I stop breastfeeding, will she look after Evie for a week while I sleep at a health farm, and of course she did say yes as she loves her niece. The next day, me and Lisa hung out at the hotel and then went back home to Evie so Matt could go. Was lovely having a solid block of time off, though I missed her. Little love. Then on Saturday night, I did a buffet for some mates. And a couple that was supposed to be coming couldn't so it was only 4 of us and 2 kids. We all marvelled at Jessie's boy Finlay who's about 5 months ahead of the average development time. And we laughed at Evie as she started crawling instead of walking because that's what Finlay does. Evie's favourite work at the moment is "Hello" which she says in a northern accent (not a surprise considering her mummy). Now, this is fab, as all the toddler development web sites say that at this age, they all go round repeating "no, no, no"... Evie doesn't, and that's a lovely thing, as it's proven that it's only going to happen if you use negative reinforcement all the time. When Evie does something I don't want her to do, I say "Yes, let's do this instead because..." and she understands. I can say "Sit on the step so I can put your boots on", she'll get her boots and sit on her step. Very fab. Considering a few things that have happened in my friends' lives recently, I've really needed this weekend, and was so happy that I was with Bob, Jess and Currants, as they're some of my closest most wonderful mates. I was overcome with emotion and very grateful for them. I sat Evie on my knee and said "I love you more than shoes". So then Sunday, me and Currants went to the Rupert Brooke pub in Granchester. We had to have the Jeffrey Archer discussion again ("I'm sure he lives in Oxford", Currants says), and then I saw some reference to JA in the pub. Finally shut her up! We hung out there for about 6 hours, as it's v child friendly, and serves peppermint tea, salads and olives. Evie played and played, then I walked her round the village to get her to sleep. Got home, then realised I'd left Evie's The Elves and the Shoemaker boots at the pub, so had to drive all the way back. Then dropped Currants at the trainstation with strict orders to text this guy she met last week. Then today, I opened my card from my mum, and it's a shoeaholic card! Funny how I'd just told Evie that I love her more than shoes! I took Evie to nursery and took myself off to lunch. Hung out at La Margarita, my fave restaurant in Cambridge. Ooh, their beef tomatoes! Then I bought some clothes from Cult Clothing (my fave shop in Cambridge for clothes), then went to Borders for a bit. Picked Evie up, expected a quiet birthday night in. The doorbell rang, and there's this little figure that looks like my Charlie. I opened the door, and Charlie's stood there with 3 cards and goes "Quick, I'd best go home before mum realises I'm gone"!. Bless. All my family had drove 100 miles to come and have a surprise birthday tea with me. Luckily, I'd tidied up the conservatory the weekend before, and have a table that seats 8 in there. Perfect. Jennie bought me flowers, and a card from Evie. January 24th -- Got an email from Matt. Someone's on a dating site, calling herself Mary Poppins, and using MY PHOTOS from this web site. Wrote said dating site stiff email just now. Eugh. Get your own identity, woman. Fake woman. January 28th -- Aw guys, am having such a mellow time of it! After deciding a while ago that I'd been doing too much and all that, I've really cut down my obligations and it all feels lovely. Even went to parents over the past couple of days. Would normally go "Can't do that as I must work while Evie sleeps", but realised that for the excitement of her being with her family versus me getting an extra 4 hours work, there's just no contest. So we went off and had a fab time, and Evie did "Hello Grandma" which of course created a new and special bond between my favourite two women. I went to see our new office, wow... Am not fully getting that it's ours yet, as it seems so great and not what I could have thought we'd have a couple of years ago. Also interviewed a new lady who's going to be our marketing manager. Very switched on and fab, and just perfect for the role. I've got so many ideas buzzing round my head and am very glad I can entrust people to execute them as I play tea parties with Evie and several stuffed monkeys (not of the Pete Burns type). Got our new look pot lucks tomorrow, and am v excited about that. Giving people the option to pay for not bringing food seems like a stroke of genius that has generated extra interest. And there's even a doggie coming, and you can't get better than that! Am so totally appreciating so much right now after my January Go Slow. It's done me the world of good. And have got passport application forms for Evie and me so we can go see Jose in Ibiza in a few weeks. Very great. Shazzie wants sand in her bananas! Loving it all, loving it all! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 29th January -- Loved the pot luck! So many new faces, and the raw doggie! Great day. The table wasn't big enough to hold everything. Great having it on Sundays, so much more relaxed. Except for Evie who decided to be Evie Teevie and didn't have her morning nap, so was exhaused and all Stary Mary. The world's first raw foodHow exciting is this? Channel 4 are doing a 2 part documentary on the world's first raw food. Some people are so sure this is the best food in the world that they give it to their children for years. One person, my mate Veronika still gives it to her seven year old child. Some people think that the world's first raw food is weird and shouldn't be allowed out in public. They are a bit odd though, and often eat a substitute from cows that's cooked and made for big animals with tiny brains. This is a must watch, even if you don't have a telly. Go to an all night Tescos and start flicking through. Extraordinary Breastfeeding: Channel 4, Wednesday 1 February, 9pm. And also, V will be on Richard and Judy from 5pm on said day, so check her out! Aw, love Judy. Love V. Love Richard. And if you're interested to hear more of what V has to say, do buy her magazine -- it's fab, it's worldwide and as from the next issue, Shazzie is a columnist! Radiant childrenThe lovely Tish has finally launched her web site, all about bringing her two children up raw, as nature intended. Check out Radiant Children today! Very important work, this! I've read her e-book that will be sold soon, and highly recommend it. It's full of personal experience, science, photos and recipes. |
