2004 -- December's snippets

1st December -- Blimey, didn't write much in November, did I? You wouldn't think I had no life, the way my diary is so empty. Let me try to recap a bit...

Evie's teething and coping very admirably! When it hurts her she produces masses of dribble. With all the dribble bombs she drops, I'm a permanent swimming pool. I press her hand and feet pressure points which is a massive help for her. The relief is apparent in a couple of minutes. I've also been giving her some sucrose-based chamomilla.

Am getting very fed up being in Bedford with no mates. Cambridge isn't massively far away, but you can't just pop round someone's house for a cuppa. Have just decided to join Baby college -- me and Evie will go there in January. Maybe, just maybe, I'll find a mate there who doesn't run a mile when I say Evie's unvaxed and co-sleeps. Ohhh!

Weight loss has been good. Just one day my body decided it liked all the raw food I ate before I got pregnant, and since then it's been really easy. I've eaten the odd cooked thing, but nothing major. Also been having acupuncture for my bad back (that came back with breast feeding, but since I learned to feed lying down, it's got really really loads better). Also having a back massage every week. It's lovely. Gran Christine comes to look after Evie and I get two hours off all to myself. It's amazing, as it feels like a whole day. I love being with Evie, but you never switch off for a second, even in your sleep, so those two hours are a goddess-send.

Me with Evie at nearly 4 months. She's a big girl standing up.

Can you believe the year's almost out? Am sure someone stole some months from us. Time's speeding up so much, everyone's falling over themselves to do things. No-one's escaping. Right -- next year is a go slow year for me!! I can run a business, look after a baby and hang out with no mates and chill out and do nothing, too ;-)

Right. Promise I'll keep a bit more up to date this month. And if you're in Bedford and want to be my mate, then lemmeknow via Val!!

Love ya

Getting ready for Christmas

20th December -- wow, had a great few weeks and haven't missed having no mates in Bedford at all. Got lots of mails from people going "we'll visit you", but that's not what I was getting at, I've got billions of mates, just none here. Anyway, been out and about and enjoying life mucho again. Phew. Was begining to think being a mummy had to be isolating, but of course it's all in how you deal with it...

Went off to Mum and Dad's for a few days, but Evie loved the fresh air so much and I loved being there, we stayed for a whole week. What bliss. Even though their house is a total building site -- we were having our tea on their bed! Anyway, hopefully when we go visit for Xmas, it'll all be finished, after a fashion.

Then we had our ex-work's Xmas do. Had a wonderful evening. Took Evie with me, Matt went to his own work's do. Ended up with all of us taking over the whole non-smoking side of a pub and having a lock in. Evie was in her elephant being passed round all her aunties. And funny -- all the guys were all distant with her at the beginning of the evening, but by the end of the night the were all like "I want a go". And, what a synchronicity -- I'm barely ever in Cambridge these days, but while we were having our meal, Louis rang me, and said he was in Cambridge. So we met in the pub and he gave me the best shoulder massage ever. Lovely surprise that was, as he lives in Glastonbury and I haven't seen him since May.

Then the next day we went to Matt's dad and his girlfriend's Xmas do, and Evie was a total treasure again. Whenever I take her out people go "Oooh, isn't she good" and yet when I say it's because we're attached and co-sleep etc, they're like "Oh, no, I think it's just her nature". OK, give a baby what it needs and then be surprised at how "good" it is...

Then me and Matt and Evie went for a walk by the river (pics right), and we've been going to so many places and doing so much. Finally, we went out for our first time without Evie last week. Auntie Jane looked after her, with booby milk in the fridge (which she didn't drink, so she sucked like a vampire all night when I got back!). That was odd, but I didn't feel the need to keep phoning to see if she was OK.

Talking of booby milk -- I read in The Mother the other day that if you don't introduce food til 7 months (as opposed to 6, which is what the HVs recomend here), food absorption goes up about 60% for the rest of the baby's life. Am going to look more into this before I start feeding Evie food. Ah, but I can't wait to, as I've just got my new Vita-Mix! Oh, it's like the best thing ever, only better. I love it. Can't believe I've waited so long to get one, but it was wooorth it.

And this is fab news. A new raw mag in the UK (sold worldwide, so no excuses!). Funky Raw is Tish and co's creation, and it covers everything you may come across when living the raw lifestyle. It's very vibrant and happening, and is a much needed change to what was becoming a very stale UK raw movement. I 100% love it.

Now then, I've probably got a billion more things to write about, but am fast running out of time. More pressies to wrap, toothpaste to buy and a baby to feed. Aw, Christmas this year will be so amazing with Evie. We put the tree up yesterday (yes, a bit late!!), and we laid her under it while it changed colour (it's a fibre-optic one). She was all tranced out for about an hour. She loved it so much. I'll do the same in a bit when she wakes up. Aw!!!

I'll try to write before Xmas, but if I don't -- you make sure you have the loveliest time ever, and we'll do the same!

Lots of love

xxxxxxxx
