2002 -- June's snippets

Viva Espana

Eurovision came and went. Rosa La Voz (Rosa The Voice) came 7th, but that's all down to the political voting, so say the Spaniards. As Portugal weren't in the competition, Spain had few allies. Even the UK didn't vote, and considering how much the Brits like Spain, that's not very nice! So say the Spaniards.

Anyway, Rosa is now a national heroine, and commands great fees for her great voice. She's loved by the nation for other reasons, too. When first in the public eye, she was very overweight, and is now becoming a butterfly -- she's the type of heroine the public like. There's a great game on the web which you can play, and the aim is to help Rosa slim down by exercising her. What a good way to spend your life.

The Romeria happens this month. There's a 2 inch statue of the Virgin Someoneorother, or La Virgen as they call her. Fancy calling a woman by her sexual status. Strange. Anyway, all the locals have a weekend of partying, erm, I mean worshiping La Virgen. They build these big prefab houses out in the country, and each has a different theme. You go in and get free drink and food, and they all have music, some is traditional flamenco, and some is hard pumping techno, and there's everything in between. It's a good night.

Hard working Spaniards...

Joe emailed me this:

"How beautiful it is to do nothing, and then rest afterwards."
-- Spanish proverb

My goodness. How true.

4th June -- Summer is officially here. I had to take yesterday morning off to make sure. Me and Claude went down to the beach at about 9am. We did some great yoga -- how different doing it in an alive place near the roaring ocean, to doing it in this house with motorbikes screaming past.

Then we went for a swim. The water wasn't cold but I'm such a wuss when it comes to temperatures, that I went "Maybe I'll swim in an hour" -- like the sea would warm up by then! Claude said "It's all in your mind, you can control this" and so I told my mind to shut up saying it's cold, I wanted to swim. So I swam, and ran into the waves, and played. Oh, I was screaming with excitement, I felt like a little child again. I love playing so very much. Maybe that's why people have children -- so they have an excuse to play. But we shouldn't need an excuse, we shouldn't deny these instincts of ours.

Anyway, then I ate some cherries for breakfast, then we sunbathed, then Claude played guitar, and then we went back to Coin. Wow, what a morning! This is what I love about working for myself -- I started work at 2pm and finished sometime in the evening. Fab.

Got my new t shirts done and they're already selling! The first one sold about 3 minutes after I'd finished doing the on-line ordering page! Wow. They do look so lovely and elegant, I'm very pleased with them. Oh, yes I've had some blokes already nagging me wanting bloke type t shirts, so I'll do them very soon, men, OK? Promise. Thing is, my illustrations are so girlie that I don't know what I'd put on a t shirt for men. I'll have to stretch myself and see what I can come up with.

"I'm a fountain of love
In the shape of a girl"

-- Björk

8th June -- Well, t shirts are selling well. We've just ordered more sizes. Ferny also wants to make some now. He's such a good artist, much better than me (I think). Anyway, we're making a new web site for home stuff soon, and he's going to have some of his art on that no doubt.

Joe came over the other day with his brother, Ray. That was a nice surprise. We went to a restaurant on the road just before you turn of to Eco Forest, and they do me really good salads. The waitress gets the order perfect every time.

Went to the beach with my adoptive family, Jatinder, Derek and 2 of their kids yesterday. Wow, it was so good to relax. Seems like I need to be by the sea right now. Makes me feel great, and more productive when I get home.

Tonight is the Romeria. It was this time last year that Fernando and I were at the Romeria and decided that we were in love. So it's a special night for us tonight. Must have a bath, I appear not to have had one for several days for some reason!! Think I'll go do that now while I remember. Will get CWG 3 in there with me, too. I like reading in the bath. Something so luxurious about it.

12th June -- Wow, I'm having a fab time of life at the moment! Maybe coz it's dead sunny and the vibe in the house is chilled as there's no-one here during the day. Well, Ferny's dad's here but all I hear from him is "Hola" as he sits in the street saying hello to people. Sweetie.

Oh, didn't go to the Romeria. Fernando hurt his to. Don't know what he did. He thinks he broke it, though and couldn't walk. What timing. So we sat in and watched a bit of it on the local Coin telly. Don't think I missed much, just wanted to go to mark our love anniversary but obviously our angels had other plans.

"...Shazzie, thanks for the inspiration you've given me. I give you full credit for me taking the final plunge to Rawdom after 3 years vegan. (6 yrs lacto-veg before that). That was 3 months ago and I feel great.

Your web site is just phenomenal , it really changed my view of raw-fooders from this prejudiced notion of a crazy, masochistic cult to seeing the ones with the best health of all.

Your testimonials was what finally convinced me. Keep up the great work !"

Peter

Hm. Didn't mention that my dad had been in hospital last week. Not a good time for us, but he's out now and on the mend. He was all so determined to get back on high raw after letting it slip a bit, and then he got ill. I hope it's an extra incentive for him. Oh, I love my daddy so much!

Anyway, Can't stop long as I'm too full of energy to sit here gassing. Am cleaning the house today in-between working. Isn't life good?

Oh, Sara from Manchester just had her baby. She's called him Naill. He's lovely and I cried. Well, I have to, I'm an Aquarian.

I put some piccies up of our babies earlier. I'm not broody!!! Blimey. Everyone I know is having babies. Am still not having them until I've got my farm. It's not fair on children to be brought up without green around them, I wouldn't do that.

Hey, figs are in season!! I just got my first lot yesterday. Soon me and Claude will go fig tree climbing to get some wild ones. They're the best. We went to the beach again on Monday, did some yoga etc. I didn't go swimming this time, though -- the sea looked a bit chilly. The weather hasn't been very hot compared to last year, but it's warming up nicely now! Mmmm. Oh, and the wasps have overtaken my terrace, and they bombard me every time I try to hang the washing out. Funnily, they don't do anything when I'm sunbathing up there. Well, what am I to do, then?

16th June -- Jen's birthday. Must try and remember. Ha. Remembered. And it was Father's day. Sent them both a web card, as Spanish post and timing don't mix.

21st June -- Sorry, I've been neglecting you. Things have been so hectic here, work is full on and I've also found a bit of a social life. What's a recluse to do? Mum says that Dad is getting better, but he's still not allowed to work. Someone emailed me the other day and said they have a meditation healing group and they are doing some healing for my dad. Aren't there some lovely people on this earth? They don't even know him, or me, and they're doing that. So lovely, that.

We got some more t shirts in the other day, so we now sell all sizes, not just tight tummy ones. Great news, that side of the business is doing well. Also got some exciting web design jobs popping up. Just finished La Chispa -- this is a free mag for "Alternative living in Andalucia". Hm. Never liked the word "Alternative" but I suppose you have to use words that people understand.

Still have bags of energy. I wake up when Ferny wakes up now -- about 6.45. Cor, when I first moved here and was eating non-organic food and the house was poisoning me, I'd sometimes sleep until 11! How crazy. When I get my farm I'll build an eco house and there won't be any nasty stuff seeping out and hurting me.

Had a lovely time at the beach this Monday. A girl who was staying at Eco Forest came with us, she's called Nadia -- everso nice and has a voice like an angel. She sang on the beach, it was fab. We did lots of yoga and then went swimming. Then I decided I wanted to try and practice doing walkovers. I used to be able to do them when I was little, as I was such a gymnast, but body doesn't do it now. Well, practiced long and hard but kept landing on my back. It felt good, though, naked gymnastics on the beach. This is the life. So I'll practice again next week, and will get it soon enough, I'm so nearly there. Oh, except I really overdid it, couldn't walk on Tuesday, legs were wobbling everywhere. Then I got my period and so was in a right dramatic state. This period was good, very light and not painful, but I did get the bowel thing again, really violently for about an hour. I was exhausted afterwards. Don't know what it is about my body but it just shuts off when it gets scared, so I really had to override it with my mind. Did lots of "peace" visualising etc, and it did work eventually. It kept me from going into the same state as 2 months ago. Am convinced big time that I'm detoxing something major here, as it's always every 2 months which makes me think that it's something on one side of me and not the other. Well, really, who knows, and does it matter? All that matters is that I feel better/lighter/higher every day. It takes a lot to bring me down these days!

Am in the UK soon. I'm doing a food demo at the Fresh Summer Party. Will be fun. Am looking forward to durians and young coconuts, mucho. There weren't any coconuts last time I was in the UK, so I'm officially deficient!!

I finished the Conversations With God trilogy. I think they're about to have quite a profound effect on my life. They offer easy ways to serenity, higher love and understanding. That's what I've always been working towards -- sometimes successfully, sometimes not. I highly recommend these books. I really do. I think I neglected most things while I was reading them, but it was a really important time for me. I know you understand...

Well, must get some work done. Am planning food for the Summer Party demo. It's a secret so I can't tell you what it is, but it's good! Come along and have a great time...

28th June -- Blimey. Am just putting the finishing touches to me and Ferny's new web site, then I can unveil it. We've got some fab stuff on there. Lots of work, which is why I've not been able to natter much here, but it's fun, and groovy.

Need to prepare my annual accounts this afternoon, to take to my accountant in the UK. *Sigh*. For just being once a year, it sure comes round quick. But that's not surprising, seeing as time is shrinking. I'll probably have to do it again next week! Can't believe my company has celebrated 2 birthdays. Bless it.

Got the menu finished for the summer party. It's fab. Oh, sorry, can't tell you what it is, but all new all original raw recipes from the heart of Shazzie. Cor. Hope to see you there.

Am listening it Jo Wiley on Radio 1, she's at Glastonbury having a fab time. Me and Ferny found a Heineken Festival in Spain in August, and we're going to that. Imagine, a holiday with my boyfriend. Fab.

Oh, it's kind of mango season now. And there are sooo many figs! Am in love with figs, but haven't been fig tree climbing this year yet. Will do when I get back. They're in season for months. Mangoes aren't that popular round here. They grow them more over in the Tropical Coast, about 60 miles away, but not much here. I got some funny shaped ones yesterday, lovely they are. When there's good fruit out, I eat so much less.

Hey, I went to the beach the other day and some bloke from Morocco was nattering to me. We went for a swim and then afterwards he helped me practice backwards somersaults! I can't do them on my own any more, but with help I did them. Aw, I tell you, it felt amazing. Couldn't believe it. Am still practicing walkovers, which I can't do any more either, and can't practice here as I don't have the space, but on the beach I just want to jump all over the place.

Ferny took me to the beach at the weekend, and we and his 2 friends all ended up doing yoga! I was very gentle with them, but Ferny's good for not practicing. He's a natural, but he's so rapid, he gets into a posture and then jumps up with a look of "what next" on his face. I don't have enough Spanish words to explain this...

Well, must dash. Gotta do some more work. Love to you.
